Death Valley & The Alabama Hills Photography Workshop

Death Valley & The Alabama Hills Photography Workshop

Death Valley is a truly unique National Park highlighting one of the lowest & driest locations in North America. Home to Badwater basin, the lowest point in the U.S. to Telescope Peak and the surrounding mountain coming in at over 11,000 feet, this park is bigger than Yellowstone and showcases some of the Mohave desert's most unique landscapes including salt flats, towering sand dunes, rugged mountain terrain, alien landscapes like the Race Track and so much more. In addition to visiting the best the park has to offer, we will also be making a trip for two days to the Eastern Sierra's to photograph Mount Whitney, the tallest peak in the lower 48 sitting just above the surreal arch filled Alabama Hills.

Itinerary:

First of all, we will spend as much time in the field as possible when the light and weather are right for capturing dramatic landscape images as well as exploring intimate and abstract compositions. When the light becomes harsh, we will break for rest and get together over lunch for processing tutorials and image critique feedback. We watch the weather closely and will decide daily on the best locations to visit for not only capturing amazing images, but also maximizing learning.

We will meet on the 12th at 2pm for a quick get together at the hotel before heading out into the field for a sunset shoot. On the 13th - 16th we will shoot every morning and evening s well as much time in the morning and evening hours when photograph is productive. On the 17th, after our sunrise/morning session, we will head over to Lone Pine and check into our hotel. That afternoon and evening we will be exploring the Alabama Hills under Mount Whitney. On the 18th, we will shoot the Alabama Hills and it's many granite arches and spires under the Sierra Nevada mountains both in the morning and evening. If the conditions are right, we may have a night photography session. On the 19th, the tour concludes at 10am after our sunrise/morning session.
